Stolen Identities
Do I Need Identity Theft Fraud Protection?
If you have not been a
victim of
identity theft, you can consider yourself one
lucky son of a gun.
Stealing identities is quickly becoming the crime of choice,
and let me tell you from experience, you may not have had a
burglar creep into your living room and rob you blind, but if
you do ever have your identity stolen, the consequences will be
just as bad, if not worse.
If you are asking yourself,
"Do I need
identity theft fraud protection, really?" you will
probably realize the answer is a resounding yes once you hear
my story.
I am just an average person; I
don't make a lot of money, but I do have a steady income, and
on top of that, I was raised to believe that you should be
honest, work hard, and pay all your bills on time. Those
are the values I was taught, and those are the values I have
lived by my whole life.
You are probably much the
same. And the benefits of such living are pretty good,
you must admit. I have always had purchasing power.
Working hard and living within my means and paying my bills
gave me a pretty decent credit rating, so when I needed a
credit card or wanted to buy some new living room furniture, it
wasn't a problem. In short, I had a good name.
Little did I know that my good
name was in jeopardy, and you may not realize that yours is in
danger, too. You see, there are people out there –
criminals – who would rather steal your good name and credit
history and use it fraudulently than build their own good name
up like you and I did.
That is exactly what happened to
me, and since I didn't really take out a bunch of loans all the
time, it turns out that thieves were ruining my good reputation
and buying all kinds of expensive stuff with my identity
without my ever being aware of it.
I didn't know there was anything wrong until my car died and I
went to get a new one. My jaw about hit the floor when I
was denied a loan for an inexpensive car that I really
needed!
You see, I have a mortgage,
and my mortgage was sold. Well, so what, right?
That happens all the time. I never gave it another
thought. Then, I found out that during the transfer of
information, some information was "lost." Unfortunately,
I didn't find that out until after the thieves who stole the
personal information of over three thousand mortgage-holders
had themselves a good old time with our identities and our
money!
It took me months and months
to get my credit history sorted out and the damage
repaired. In fact, after suffering tension headaches and
feeling depression starting to set in, I decided to hire a
lawyer to help me. Let me tell you, that was expensive,
but it had to be done, so I did it. My credit report is
okay now, but the months of aggravation and ridiculous expense
I had to go to are definitely not something I would
recommend.
Don't be a victim like I
was. Protect yourself. Get identity theft
